Field of Action: Gender Equality & Sustainable Development
Brief Description: CEPRODIH was created in 1998 as a response to the growing levels of poverty and indigence in Uruguay. Throughout the years this organization has focused its efforts on defending and protecting the rights of women that have fallen victims of domestic abuse. Specific initiatives, such as the PUERTO Project and the DESAFIO Project, were created to provide 24 hour assistance to women with children at risk. Specialized personnel working at these prevention centers offer their professional support making sure that the basic needs are met in terms of nutrition, hygiene, housing and social security. The newly established Microcredit Programme concentrates on providing an economic alternative to these women by creating new and better instruments that will allow them to support their families with dignity.
