Brief Description: The Urban Development Institute, also called CENCA, specializes in creating alternatives for sustainable economic, environmental and human development that help improve the quality of life in marginalized communities through institutional management strategies. Its main projects are the Environmental Sanitation Project that seeks solutions to the lack of access to clean water and basic sanitation in poor settlements; the Income and Employment Generation Project focuses all efforts on producing urban equipment and basic infrastructure for the creation of new incomes; the Productive Workshops for Women and Adolescents is a support programme that provides technical assistance, capacity training and microcredits through communal banks; and the Microenterprise Support Programme offers legal services, loans, business training and commercialization opportunities.
